World Book Day

At Horn Park, we are passionate about books and inspiring a love of reading. We are going to be having a week-long programme of festivities in honour of World Book Day which falls during week commencing 2nd March.

On Monday 2nd March, we will be welcoming children's author Chris Callaghan, who will be meeting the whole school and discussing his book, 'The Great Chocoplot' and his life as an author. He will be an inspirational speaker and role model for our budding readers and writers.

There will be an opportunity for children to buy his book and he will be holding a book signing during the school day. If your child would like to purchase a signed book, please send them to school with £6 in a named envelope. This is to be given to their class teacher.

You can visit http://www.chris-callaghan.com/chocolate-book/ to see if it would be suitable for your child.

On Thursday 5th March, children are invited to dress up as their favourite character from a book and this will be a great opportunity for children to immerse themselves in the world of literature and to discuss their reading experiences. https://www.worldbookday.com/ideas/dressing-up-gallery/

Other activities during the week will be a book review competition with prizes, a special book sharing assembly led by the teachers, classes joining for joint reads, not to mention our usual Stay and Read sessions. All children will also receive their World Book Day book token to put towards a new book.

Later in March there will also be a book fair where children can spend their vouchers, browse and buy books that capture their interest. Details to follow.

Thank you very much for your support. We are really looking forward to an inspirational week for the children.
